Along the route we meditated on their story and the story of Naomi and Ruth from the bible, as recounted by Sr Marie Dominique.

Peregrinação a Autignac

Queridas Bernadette, Marie France, Mary Jô e Isabel.

Artistic meditations on the sources

Images of art work
Originally uploaded by Vocatus.

These images created by groups reflecting on the topic of our sources. Here, thanks no doubt to the intercession of Pere Gailhac, the weather stayed fine for long enough for us to enjoy a swim annd lie on the beach, before moving to a local cafe to eat our supper during a shower of rain. After this we returned to the beach, which was now almost deserted by people but still full of the sound of the sea, for a beautiful session of prayer and meditation on the theme of water, animated by Sr Marie Pierre from the retirement community at La Margelle, in Beziers. We finished up by dancing a Portuguese circle dance on the beach before returning home for a supper of typical Portugese bread, cheese and sausage, washed down by Port wine.

Opening ceremony - lighting the flame

louise lights candle
Originally uploaded by Vocatus.

Louise (from Carrick on Shannon, Ireland) lights the 4th wick on the ceremonial candle during the opening ceremony for our week as a temporary international community. Pere Gailhac used to visit the abbey and received counsel from Father Marie-Jean who was Abbot there. The monastic community was again dispersed in the early part of the 20th century. The building remains as a wonderful testament to the human search for God in its beautiful, rugged surroundings. The comment contains an extract from Fr. It also gives me a picture to check out how to post photos to the blog before we go to France tomorrow. This Gailhac blog is my first blog, so please bear with any mistakes. Since you have seen Bryan, Huw (who turns 11 while we are in France), and Irene (not yet 42), - Thomas (14) took the photo and James (16) is out of shot - this might be a time to explain how we are involved in this adventure. Irene's aunt Phyllis (Sr. Teresina O'Byrne) is an RSHM and through her we got to know the community at Penmaenmawr, when we lived in North Wales. When the North European and the Portuguese provinces decided to organise a gathering of young adults to explore what it means to be called in the spirit of Pere Gailhac and his collaborators, they recalled that his original collaborators were a married couple. So they thought it would be a good idea to invite a couple (and their family) to share their experience of being called. So that is how the five of us are off to Beziers to join with 17 Portuguese, 16 from France, Poland, Britain and Ireland, and 5 RSHM the week after next.

Flickr

This is a test post from , a fancy photo sharing thing.

Outline programme for the week

Beziers August 2004 International meeting of young people

Plan of week

This is a very rough outline of the programme, based on an early draft. It is intended for anyone interested in the event happening in Béziers in August 2004. Over 30 young people from Portugal, Ireland, France, Poland, England and Scotland are coming together to form a temporary community to explore the meaning of vocation in today's society. They are joined by members of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary and friends. We draw our inspiration from Pére Gailhac and his collaborators who founded the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Beziers over 150 years ago.

We hope to post regular updates on our activities during the event between August 17th and 25th. While we do not intend to translate the postings, we hope that some will be in English, some in French and some in Portuguese.
